What sports/activities are good for people with asthma?

I have pretty bad asthma and I’m pretty out of shape. I’m about 30 pounds overweight and really out of shape. I’ve started walking and I would like to try a sport that will help get me into shape. I’m not a gym person (I’ve had memberships over the years and gyms didn’t intrest me). Any suggestions?

Swimming. Just relax in the water and swim whenever you feel like it. But try to do it every day for at least an hour. Swimming strengthens every muscle in your body and it helps your lungs.

well, if you have REALLY bad asthma, either get an inhaler and do wahtever interests you, or quit the gym and start walking. I had bad asthma, but slowly worked my lungs into shape- walking then running. get ready for them to burn !

Swimming is the best exercise for asthmatics as the water helps expand the lungs and takes some of the pressure off breathing. If your asthma is bad don’t go crazy swimming away, but gentle swimming, floating and such, build the amount of time and the swimming you do. I go 3 or 4 times a week, i also do some aqua exercise classes in the pool too a lot of fitness centers/gyms offer them now as it takes the pressure off your joints and the resistance of the water gives you a great work out. Do keep taking your medications as directed by your Dr.
