What positions are available in the US military if I have asthma?
November 20th, 2009 | by admin |Naz asked:
I have had diagnosed asthma all of my life. It is very controlled using an inhaler. I am interested in serving my country and I would like to learn more about the positions available to an asthmatic that are closest to active combat (meaning I don’t want to be a cook etc).

Asthma disqualifies you from military service in any branch. No waivers. I’m sorry.

Having asthma after the age of 13 will disqualify you from all branches of the US military. BUT, depending on what you want to do, you might consider looking for a job as a civilian with the Department of Defense, or even a job working for the Veteran’s Administration or State Department. You can find ALL sorts of federal government jobs at …. GOOD LUCK!

Asthma is a lifetime disqualification. You can’t serve in the Military. Sorry.

Any diagnosis of asthma leads to disqualification. You can get a waiver if you haven’t had any problems after 13 years old. If you have to use an inhaler though, you’re not going to get a waiver. I’m very sorry; I hope you can find other ways to serve this country.
