Cats are more prone to Asthma than dogs....Not saying your pooch doesn't have it but, have you thought, especially this time of year if it could be allergies? Or have you introduced something new in the house ( anything from a new hairspray to new carpeting ) that could be setting off a reaction in your little friend? wheezing and coughing are symptoms of several things from a simple cold to heart problems your best bet is to seek Vet care ASAP and keep an eye out for what may be making him/her so uncomfortable...Good Luck

My 10-month old puppy is exhibiting unusual snorting and hacking sounds, which I think might be asthma. She has a vet appointment in two days. Not to freak you out, but a more serious possibility is a collapsed trachea (particularly common with small breeds, which mine is). Another possibility is kennel cough -- even a vaccinated dog can catch it if it's been in close contact with other dogs that have it. Kennel cough is fairly easy to treat, particularly for an older dog. For asthma, I'm not sure -- I have an asthmatic cat who has to take medication regularly, so I assume there is something similar for dogs.
