both of my sons have asthma the oldest is on Pulmicort turbo haler 2x daily , Zrytec 10mg daily Xopenex neb 4x daily
The little one is on Singular 1 daily Advair daily Xopenex neb 3x day both use xopenx rescue inhalers also.
We try to limit the amount of fatty or fried foods and as many preservatives as possible. I clean house with vinegar baking soda and some times bleach. as they a sensitive to chemicals. On house cleaning day both children are sent to the sitters so that they are not exposed to flying dust. I was told that stuffed animals and carpet would make their asthma worse so we have gotten rid of both.

I was told that Chihuahua dogs would lessen or take the asthma away. I do not know if this is true however I did buy both boys a Chihuahua pup and their asthma has gotten better. I think it's more the fact that the pups will sit in their laps and play during breathing treatments which makes the kids laugh thus causing them to breath the medicine in deeper and since they are distracted they actually will stay on the machine for a full treatment without boredom. Who knows ? Not me but I am just glad something is working for my guys

Ask your allergist or pulmnologist about the new drug called "Xolair." It has been a Godsend for me. Also, join our group:

Most of us have been helped tremendously by this new medication.

Hello, I too have asthma with a vengeance! I was just switched by my pulmonary Dr. to Zyrtec 10mg from Singulair, he said that sometimes singulair works better for younger patients in their teens and not as much for a person in their 20-30's. I also just switched to Azmacort which is helping, I am not using my rescue inhaler like I was... If you have carpet tear it out! I have been working on removing all my carpet for the past two years, it is helping. you can put in laminate floors like Pergo, or wood. You may try a room purifier, they are costly so start with one in your bedroom first. Also, wash your sheets in HOT water once a week, do not have down or feather pillows.

Believe me, I have been at my wits end with finding solutions to help my asthma and it is so depressing. Watch out for the steroids, I have gained 40 lbs on those and they still did not keep the inflammation under control. I am just now trying to walk and exercise for the first time in two years (my asthma has been the controller in my life for a while) I am now fighting back, I hope! When I am having a really bad day breathing I do try to drink some alcohol (not beer with yeast & don't get wasted) that seems to keep me calm. Also keep your filters clean and keep all pets outside especially during high allergy season.
I would watch supplements, try to eat healthy instead, and have someone else mow the yard (or else where a mask)

Good luck, I really love my Azmacort I can actually take a deep breath without sounding whispy!

Dear Emmie,
I, too, take Singulair, Foradil and I use Qvar. It is an inhaled steroid and is better for me than Advair...I am also on a multivitamin and an extra Vitamin C tab...Please be very very careful about taking supplements - they can be more trouble than they are worth...Please follow the advise of your Respiratory doctor, and remember to drink a LOT of water (and a little booze !),,,,,,,,,,,,And PLEASE remember to PRAY

please please please try cutting cows milk out of your diet! Alternatives are goats milk and soya milk or even oat milk (all available in supermarkets) Just cut it out completly for 2 weeks and see if it makes any difference.
Cows milk is very hard to digest and is high in lactose this can cause headaches, eczma, and can worsen asthma and many other diseases and disorders. Also if you get a chance get a food allergy test many other foods can cause these problems too.
please trust me i speak from experience!
